SME Registrants: Verify Your Company Size and Documents in REACH-IT

Companies that declared themselves as micro, small, or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their REACH registrations are being reminded by ECHA to double-check their declared company size and ensure that supporting documents are uploaded correctly in REACH-IT.

Why It Matters

SME status allows registrants to benefit from reduced registration fees. However, if the company size has been incorrectly declared, businesses risk not only having to pay the difference in fees but also facing an administrative charge of up to EUR 19,900.

What You Should Do

  • Check your declared size in REACH-IT.

  • If your company was larger than declared at the time of submission, inform ECHA’s Helpdesk immediately.

  • Correct declarations made before verification starts will only require paying the difference in the correct fee, without the administrative charge.

Ongoing Verification by ECHA

ECHA continues to launch new verifications to ensure the accuracy of SME claims. If a discrepancy is discovered during the verification process, both the fee difference and the administrative penalty will apply.

Guidance and Support

  • Guidance on determining company size is available on ECHA’s website.

  • Registrants must upload supporting documentation in REACH-IT.

  • Companies should regularly check their REACH-IT account for new messages and tasks.

Keeping your company details and registrations accurate not only avoids costly penalties but also ensures smooth compliance with REACH obligations.
