Support for Preparing Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are prepared so that companies manufacturing or importing chemical substances and mixtures, and the downstream users of these products, have the information they need to use chemicals safely. SDSs are one of the most fundamental tools for communicating information along the supply chain.
In Türkiye, SDSs were previously prepared under the Regulation on Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Substances and Mixtures published in Official Gazette No. 29204 on 13 December 2014. That regulation was repealed as of 31 December 2023, and since 1 January 2024 all SDSs are prepared in accordance with Annex II of the KKDIK Regulation. With this change, SDS preparers were replaced by Chemical Assessment Specialists (CAS/KDU).
Our Safety Data Sheets are prepared by our Chemical Assessment Specialists certified by the Ministry; on request, they can also be prepared in other languages and kept up to date. New Regulations in CLP and SDS
The CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) Regulation was established in line with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System (GHS). In Türkiye, the corresponding SEA (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) Regulation was published in 2013 and updated in 2020 to align with KKDIK.
A Safety Data Sheet, a key document for managing the potential risks of chemicals, must be provided in the official language(s) of the countries where the substance or mixture is placed on the market. It must be updated without delay when new information on hazards or on risk management measures becomes available, once an authorisation has been granted or refused, or once a restriction has been imposed.
For substances and mixtures placed on the Turkish market, the SDS must be prepared in Turkish. Companies exporting to the European Union must provide SDSs in the official language of the relevant country, in line with EU REACH Annex II.

Understanding and Properly Preparing Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is a Very Important Responsibility
Safety data sheets are the most crucial risk communication tool between the manufacturer and user of chemical products. Through these documents, manufacturers and sellers can provide their customers with comprehensive and detailed information about the product.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) serve as the identity cards for products, summarizing all the necessary information about the product for its user. As part of manufacturers’ social responsibilities, SDS play a crucial role in promoting a more informed approach towards the chemicals used ubiquitously in our era, identifying potential dangers to the environment and human health.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are documents specific to your company and products. They must thoroughly analyze the potential hazards of raw materials or direct substances to humans and the environment. They should detail what to expect and how to take precautions if exposed to the final product. SDSs should not be prepared just for the sake of it. Realistic exposure scenarios related to the product should be developed and accurately interpreted by experts before being conveyed to the user.

KKDIK Regulation and Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Substances and Mixtures Regulation
As stated on the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change’s website, until December 31, 2023, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) have been prepared in accordance with either the Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Substances and Mixtures Regulation published in the Official Gazette No. 29204 on December 13, 2014, or the Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (TURKREACH / KKDIK) published in the Official Gazette No. 30105 on June 23, 2017, and its additional regulation published on December 23, 2023. However, after December 31, 2023, SDSs have begun to be prepared solely according to the KKDIK Regulation.
Therefore, after this date, the responsibility of preparing SDSs has transitioned from the SDS Preparers to the Chemical Assessment Specialists (KDU) specified in KKDIK Annex-18.
