AZO Testing

AZO dyes are the name of the group of synthetic dyestuffs based on nitrogen that are often used in textile industry. Some AZO dye stuffs may separate under certain conditions to produce carcinogenic and allergenic aromatic amines. In Europe the Azo colorants Directive 2002/61/EC restricts 22 AZO colorants (dyes) in textiles and leather products.

In 1994, German government required that the leather products and textile imported from other countries be tested according to the Oeko-100/200 standard. The Standard indicates that no textile should contain any of 22 AZO dyes intermediates. If one of them is detected, the products are considered to be disqualified. EU Directive 2002/61/EC indicates clearly that the textile shall not contain any of 22 AZO dye intermediates.

If you are an importer or manufacturer of leather or textile products based in the EU, you need to ensure your products do not contain any one of 22 AZO dyes listed above. Other restricted hazardous substances in leather and textile products might include SVHC、DMF、PFOS、PoHS、the substances on REACH-Restriction list and so on.

As an EU importer, you might ask your suppliers to provide testing report regarding whether hazardous substances are present in your products or not. Doruk Sistem offers such testing services to you or your suppliers and make your products comply with EU legislation. Doruk Sistem will also follow up and inform you about the latest developments on AZO Dyes as a complementary service.
