ECHA Updates Annual Evaluation Statistics: REACH Compliance and Key Findings
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has evaluated 15,500 REACH registrations since 2009. These evaluations help ensure companies provide reliable hazard information, supporting chemical safety in the EU.
REACH Compliance and ECHA’s Evaluation Activities
Between 2009 and 2024, ECHA checked 15,500 REACH registration dossiers, covering 3,200 substances—23% of all submitted registrations.
For high-volume chemicals (100 tonnes/year or more), 34% of dossiers have been reviewed. In 2024, ECHA conducted 313 compliance checks, issued 208 decisions to companies, and requested additional data to clarify long-term human health and environmental effects.
ECHA also reviewed 161 testing proposals and issued 92 decisions, ensuring the proposed tests meet safety requirements.
Key Results and Future Steps
Among the 241 substances evaluated in 2024, 70% of companies provided the requested data, while the remaining 30% were referred to national authorities for enforcement. Moving forward, ECHA will continue its efforts to improve REACH compliance.
