Poison Centre Notifications Must Be in Harmonised Format as of 1 January 2025
As of 1 January 2025, all hazardous mixtures placed on the EU market must be notified in the harmonised format as per Annex VIII of the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation. This marks the end of the transition period for poison centre notifications.
Transition Period Ending
During the transition period, companies have been allowed to notify hazardous mixtures under non-harmonised national requirements. However, starting 1 January 2025, such submissions will no longer comply with the CLP Regulation.
To continue placing hazardous mixtures on the market after this date, companies must:
- Submit a new notification in accordance with Annex VIII,
- And include the unique formula identifier (UFI) on the product label.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recommends using the ECHA Submission Portal to prepare and submit notifications in the harmonised format.
Guidance for Businesses
Companies preparing for this transition can:
- Visit the Support Page on the Poison Centre website,
- Or contact their national authority or the ECHA Helpdesk for assistance.
This regulation is designed to enhance consumer safety and ensure uniform poison centre notifications across the EU.
