Norway PoHS
Norway PoHS stands for Norway’s Policy on High Seas. It is a policy that was adopted by the Norwegian government in 2013. The policy outlines Norway’s approach to the management of the high seas, which are the parts of the ocean that are not part of any country’s territorial waters.
The policy’s main goal is to ensure that the high seas are used in a sustainable way. It does this by setting out a number of principles that should be followed when managing the high seas. These principles include the precautionary principle, the polluter pays principle, and the principle of equity.
The policy also includes a number of specific measures that Norway will take to implement it. These measures include:
* Conducting research on the high seas
* Cooperating with other countries on the management of the high seas
* Promoting the use of sustainable fishing practices
* Raising awareness of the importance of the high seas
Norway’s PoHS is an important step in ensuring that the high seas are managed in a sustainable way. It is a policy that is based on sound principles and that is supported by specific measures. Norway is to be commended for its leadership in this area.

Norwegian PoHS(Prohibition on Certain Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products) became effective on Jan 1st, 2008. The PoHS and EU RoHS Directives are similar and concern consumer products. Although the legislation applies only to Norway, RoHS standards could be potentially used for electrical and electronic products exported to EU, as very few companies will produce the same product tailored to a separate market. There are 18 hazardous substances in this regulation.
The new standard covers almost all consumer goods (only a few exceptions). It includes clothing, bags, construction and toys in addition to electrical and electronic consumer goods. The regulation does not apply to food, food packaging, fertilizers, medical equipment and tobacco, as well as fixtures on vehicles, for example, tyres and similar transportation accessories.
The new regulation is on the restriction of 18 hazardous substances, among which two (Pb and Cd) are included in RoHS Directive, and eight are included in REACH restricted substances list.
