HSE Sets Deadlines for GB Biocides Review Programme: Key Steps for Compliance

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced crucial deadlines for companies to participate in the GB Biocides Review Programme, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure continued market access for certain active substances.

Notification Deadline: February 15, 2025

HSE’s invitation focuses on two key active substances used in Product Type 11:

  • DCDMH: Reaction products of 5,5-dimethylhydantoin, 5-ethyl-5-methylhydantoin with bromine and chlorine.
  • DCEMH: Reaction products of 5,5-dimethylhydantoin, 5-ethyl-5-methylhydantoin with chlorine (CAS: 89415-87-2).

These substances are open for notification due to the withdrawal of the previous participant, Innovative Water Care LTD. This gives new companies an opportunity to step in and retain these substances within the GB Biocides Review Programme.

Dossier Submission Deadline: May 23, 2025

Entities that successfully notify by February 15, 2025, must submit comprehensive dossiers to the HSE by May 23, 2025, to maintain approval for the Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium extract used in Product Types 18 and 19 (CAS: 89997-63-7). Failure to comply will result in the removal of these substances from biocidal products and treated articles in Great Britain.

Implications of Non-Compliance

Non-compliance with these deadlines will result in non-approval decisions, prohibiting the use of the affected substances in biocidal products and treated articles. This can significantly impact market access and disrupt business operations.

Industry Response and Next Steps

Companies are strongly advised to:

  1. Submit notifications before February 15, 2025.
  2. Ensure dossier submission by May 23, 2025.

In conclusion, HSE’s deadlines for biocide substance reviews are critical for companies wishing to maintain market access. Timely compliance is essential to avoid regulatory issues and ensure the continued availability of key active substances in biocidal products.
