The European Commission has introduced new labelling regulations for products and equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases). These regulations will be implemented in line with the EU Regulation 2024/573 and provide a clear format for labelling products, ensuring the accurate reporting of the amount of F-gases contained in equipment.

Key Regulations

Label Visibility: All information on the label must stand out clearly against the background and be of a size and spacing that ensures readability. Additionally, all products containing fluorinated greenhouse gases must clearly state “contains fluorinated greenhouse gases” on the label. Labels should align with other product information labels where applicable.

Gas Quantities: The weight of F-gases must be clearly stated in kilograms or grams, and their CO2 equivalent should be expressed in tonnes. The Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the gas should also be included.

Recycling and Reclaiming Information: For recycled or reclaimed F-gases, labels must include terms such as “100% Recycled” or “100% Reclaimed,” clearly indicating the environmental status of the gases used.

Medical and Military Use Products: For medical devices or military equipment, special labelling provisions are provided. Labels must explicitly state the purpose, such as “For Medical Use Only” or “For Military Use Only.”

These regulations will come into effect in 2024, aiming to create a more transparent market and ensure the proper labelling of all products containing F-gases in the EU. The changes will help consumers and businesses better understand their environmental responsibilities.
